Amtrak train 821, the southbound Heartland Flyer, arrives at the Gainesville, Texas station 15 minutes late on its journey from Oklahoma City to Ft. Worth on September 16, 2006. The Flyer continues to have two ex-Santa Fe "Hi-level" coaches in its consist. This building also houses one of the best small city museums, with displays of local history and railroad history at this former AT&SF station. The station once housed a Fred Harvey restaurant, with the "Harvey girls" living upstairs. Displays including a replica of one of the upstairs bedrooms commemorate this history.
