Orange County’s iconic beachside rail line is failing faster than it can be fixed

The future of Southern California is playing out right now, in ways large and small, along a narrow stretch of beach and bluffs in south Orange County. In a nearly straight line that runs from Dana Point to the southern end of San Clemente, a key piece of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor (LOSSAN, for short) sits at the center of important discussions about everything from climate change and disappearing beaches to local jurisdictions, the future of California rail and even the 2028 Olympics.
