Where have all the "great domes" gone? Well, here’s one still running. It’s the ex-Great Northern "Mountain View" car that ran on GN’s Empire Builder, and is now owned by Amtrak. It has seen service on the San Diegan/Surfliners recently. Here it is on the privately operated Snow Train, shown westbound at the Sacramento station on February 19. Also, if you’re wondering where Amtrak’s "Horizon" cars are, some are on this leased consist, which is pulled by three Amtrak P32-8s (500 series).
